The Peters Projection world map is far more realistic than the versions we are used to seeing.

Thanks. I will stick with the traditional maps. If it was good enough for Mercator, it will do me.

For my sins I do a lot of 3D projection in 2D and so to me equal area and equal angle maps are nothing new.

The most important things here is what he says at the bottom of his webpage:

The earth is round. The challenge of any world map is to represent a round earth on a flat surface. There are literally thousands of map projections. Each has certain strengths and corresponding weaknesses. Choosing among them is an exercise in values clarification: you have to decide what's important to you. That is generally determined by the way you intend to use the map. The Peters Projection is an area accurate map.

None of the maps are actually wrong, its just that they are presented differently. As such, different projections are beneficial to different requirements.

It's another great episode of the west wing that one.

Another good example is the bbc shrinking the whole of the north of the uk and Scotland in particular in its weather projection. This isn't the best example but I'm on the phone
