Man beaten for talking to Saudi employers wife?

Came across this story in the news and wondered if this has been staged especially as it seemed to have been video by a third party :sneaky:

Thought you guys who live there would know if this story is likely to be credible or not?

really? It's well known Saudi Arabia is strict in terms of punishment when someone acts illegally - however I'd have thought this kind of punishment was rare by *everyday* people?

punishment depends entirely on nationality and wasta, justice and the letter of the law has **** all to do with it.
this guy however will likely get punished as he is all over the worlds media.

this kind of punishment is pretty common across the arab world towards immigrant workers, just look at the number of maids tortured in saudi etc.

No big deal.

I'd give someone a schlap for 'looking at my misses' down the Dog & Duck of a Friday night...and 'spill my pint'? well...

these videos are pretty common on youtube, who knows whether they are real or fake but i'd say they probably are real as they have little fear of prosecution or sense that what they have done may be in any way wrong.

If it's common knowledge and it happens all the time with immigrant workers (presume you mean from lesser educated countries) what is the Saudi government doing about it, if anything?

Presume that although it's common knowledge, it happens rarely?

That's a bit like asking the KKK sympathetic government of antebellum South what they were going to do about the abuses on Black people.

Certainly not in the severity and numbers as migrant workers from SubSaharan Africa and Asia.

Have any of these people abused been successful in taking their employers to court?
