A Jollibee opened at MoE a week or so ago, apparently. The Filipinos in my office in AD are planning a pilgrimage soon.
Went to one in a mall in the Philippines. Looked at what people were eating, walked out. REALLY wanted to try it as well, but it just looked rancid.

It's a hole, its smells, its like thailand but worst.

On the flip side, the islands are beautiful and more tranquil, with some amazing photo opportunities.

As Iggles said, some beautiful islands and highlands. Great diving and snorkelling.

But food is uniformly crap. And I mean crap. It's all either mushy brown crap or overcooked brown crap. Ever had fish that was hard as nails?

Just google Puka Beach (a beach on Boracay, and white beach maybe...but thats now Starbucks & Mcd's filled) the photos on google are exactly like that. Its stunning and nothing is there. Philippines is hit and miss, one moment you're thinking your in paradise, the next you smell rotten food on the streets.

The country is incredibly corrupt, and i believe that why it wont (nor can) progress.

Bang on.

Incredible place, some genuinely quality people too. Tragic that parts are so wonderful and other parts so poor.

I honestly don't understand the food problems with the Philippines. Bugger the fish, they ****ing love pork. It's all I ate for 2 weeks that I was there. Why would I eat anything else?

The Phillippines is one of our more successful countries in Asia in terms of investments. Corruption is everywhere we invest and the pips are no worse than others. They are considered to be quite likely the next country to "emerge". Try investing in Egypt or India if you want to see corruption.

The basic issue there is that the country is run by people who stop maturing at the age of 14.
