Globally as in world wide...here in the ME there only a handful of companies which, from what i know, were ticking over fine. But globally during the 2nd half of 2016 and almost all of 2017 (bar probably the last quarter) major cut backs were made.

:rofl: It's good that he agreed. Very mature of him.

Not a bad idea at all. I'd like to go back to Blighty one day which is why I'd love it to succeed post Brexit.

There was a complete hold on capex expenditure during 2017 and now in 2018 - unless the capex was needed to brought exclusively for a long term project/contract.
Our budgets for 2018 are nowhere near the growth that we were expected to achieve in past years.
But Alhumdulillaah, we've secured a fairly big contract with a company in Abu Dhabi and so that will keep us going, with smaller contracts in other regions.

And all the commuters to/in Abu Dhabi will now have to pay road tolls, coming soon...

Well, booming these days just means you end up paying more for everything. The main thing is that you are personally happy.

Hmm. Pay more for everything, alright. Went and got my UAE driving licence tonight and had to pay AED 870 for the privilege. The website said 360. I also forked 200 out unnecessarily for photos and an eye test and got a letter of no objection from my employer.

See, probably wouldn't have happened in the UK and you would have paid what the website said. Despite so called low growth, you can be happy in the UK:nod:.

Gotta call bullshit on that. Have you been to a UK passport office recently?

You know now that the possibility of leaving is out of the hat, you must be at least slightly excited to consider some new roles?
Something more at the cutting edge perhaps?

Never need to go to a UK passport office and would also only do it in Ireland or Germany but most people I know (even in UK) do it online these days.

Yup - for sure. I love moving around. Haven't fully completed what I wanted to do here just yet but that's ok. New opportunities are always fun.

See how things go, I may look at a VC fund - although have very limited experience in that sector.

Made an appointment for their premier service in London a couple of years ago. I found it amazingly efficient. I was in and out in twenty minutes and picked up the passport later that day. You pay for the privilege, but it's not that much more than applying from overseas.

My Mrs said the same when she used it.
I've done the postal one from here to Liverpool and it was excellent. Done in a matter of about 2 weeks when the online thing said a minimum of 9. That's the kind of inaccuracy I can tolerate.
