Just landed in Dubai and looking for some kind-hearted expats to show me the ropes. Absolutely zero local knowledge so far apart from an eye-opening trip to a couple of bars last night.
29 yr old british male, into music, going out, sports, travel, funny people, road trips etc. All-round good dude. Know nobody here and could use a buddy or two to go exploring with. Give me a shout if you think you could help or are in the same boat even..
Thanks.

Ah, that appears to be the same baptism of fire I was subjected to when I first arrived in Dubai 9 months ago!! I have found a few better bars but gimme an idea of where you are in town, coz I only know of ones where I am (Barsha, behind the Mall of the Emirates)

Mind you - WHAT a band! If you can ignore all the "Where you flom? You velly nice" being shouted in your ear, the Soundsations are, IMHO, the best band in town.

Barasti (in Le Meridien Mina Seyahi) is good, loads of expats, good sports coverage, good mix of ages and nationalities.
Finnegans (in The Palm Hotel) has a bit more of a pub atmosphere, good band I'm told.
Have a look at those 2. Whichever one appeals most will determine some other bars I can direct you to...
