DUBAI - Dubai has discovered an offshore oilfield east of the emirate's Rashid field, Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum's office said on Thursday.
"Mohammed bin Rashid brings the good news to the people of the Emirates and announces the discovery of a new marine oil field in Dubai," a statement from the Dubai media office said.
More than 90 percent of the oil in the UAE - a loose federation of seven city states - oil comes from Abu Dhabi, the capital.
Although Dubai's economy was built on oil, it used its profits to become the Middle East's financial and real estate hub. Oil currently accounts for about 7 percent of the emirate's GDP.

They dig down just close to the Abu Dhabi border, then due to a slight miscalculation veer slightly off course and tap into some of the Abu Dhabi oil reserves.......
