I don't know about kids being blissfully unaware and 'innocent'. Studies show children (White, Black, Oriental) do prefer White / fair skinned dolls over dark skinned ones.
This South African study used pics of real South African to gage the preference of White,Black and Coloured Children . They showed a preference for White over Xhosa and Coloured over Xhosa
