That's not bad at all.

How many times a year would you realistically go?

Dunno. In Abu Dhabi we belonged to the Hiltonia Beach Club and used to go every week. We'd spend the day on the beach or in the pool, then go for cocktails then dinner. More or less every Friday. And I used the gym in the week.

I guess it depends on what the Jebel Ali place is like. I think we'll check it out next weekend...

More like 65quid a week depending on the exchange rate. Personally I can think of better things to spend money on but each to their own.

It's cool. I'm sure one of the pools is a salt water one so you float in it. My mrs reckons she could hear music underwater but I'm not so sure.

It's all a bit dated but very cool. It's far removed from a beach club on the palm full of knobhead 20-something recruiters and slightly overweight slappers all getting pissed in a pool with a scummy film on the top and overpriced Coronas. No, I didn't enjoy that trip before you ask....and no, I can't remember which one it was.

I'm playing golf at Jebel Helmets on Friday so I'll tip my cap towards the beach.

It's the course I've shot the best on....weirdly. It's tight and narrow which I normally struggle with!

Tell me... is it at all possible to be cool and like golf? Or are the two mutually exclusive [genuine question]?

Nope. Mutually exclusive for the under 50's.

And that comes from someone who grew up beside St andrews and Carnoustie.

Golf is a great hobby or social gathering. Not to be confused with a sport

Definitely. I'm cool as ****.

It's dominated by old men, yes, but it can be everything from really competitive (the fourball I played on Saturday last weekend) or just a nice 4 hours (this Friday with a good mate).

I'm lucky that my Mrs plays, she's cooler than me and it's a whopping great bonus that we have something we both love to do, outside, with no distraction etc.

I do get the notion that it's not cool though, looking in at golf clubs with the wanky ties and old miserable gits moaning about anyone under 50. That's NOT cool.
