Its War'!!!!
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...-security.html
Let's hope it doesn't escalate or it could get sticky. I was speaking with a local the other week who basically said that tensions have been building for some time especially over the border issue.
If you look on the back of your Emirates ID card it still shows the border as the UAE sees it, i.e. joined to Qatar. Its why the Saudis won't accept the ID card as a valid travel document for locals when trying to enter KSA. He said back in 1995 the Saudis actually sent in tanks to shore up their claim regarding the border dispute. There is a lot of the black stuff riding on the border position as well.

Interesting article, thanks for posting it.
Yes, the north-south UAE/KSA border used to join the east-west Qatar southern border at the mid-point forming a 'T'. It was possible to travel from Qatar to UAE without entering KSA. However, KSA pushed the de-facto border across, so a common UAE/Qatar border no longer exists.
KSA likes to be the dominant player in the region - the causeway across to Bahrain may have been built as a 'release valve' to enable Saudi's to let off steam, but it also means Saudi can get into Bahrain quickly if things go wrong there, ie rising Iranian influence.
