More like a feel good experience for people who empathise with oldies. Next you'll be telling us that Tropical Thunder was funny. Incidentally, the Americans are great at certain genres, especially crime thrillers. We just watched Humphrey Bogarde and Lauren Bacall in the 1947 classic Dark Passage. Absolutely brilliant and genuinely ageless.
But again, it's all a matter of taste really. I really liked the film 'In The Loop', but it's not a laugh out loud gag a minute comedy, it reminds of The Office in its cringeworthyness factor and a great poke at politics. Comedy is just so subjective at times. |

I enjoyed The Hangover. It was daft, but it was just supposed to be a bit of fun. Comparing US and UK comedy show and films is a pointless exercise. Both brilliant and diabolical offerings from both. I agree with an earlier poster that Frasier is one of the best comedy series ever made, but also think that most of what they produce is spectacularly unfunny, as is much of what passes for comedy in the UK. |
Re: I can't wait..............
And I'd say the yanks also win stand-up comedian victory. Give me a bit of George Carlin or Bill Hicks any day over that Peter Kay or that Ricky Gervais moron. Eddie Izzard had a few good tours..but look where that took him..lol.

Last of the Summer Wine was patronising (to Northerners) unfunny tosh. The funniest ever moment was some old tramp bloke telling some ugly woman in a cafe to 'give us a kiss'. The next time I was unlucky enough to see it (about three years later), the same line was in it......... US crime drama? Oh yes........... especially CSI New York (the best of the CSIs by far) with the brilliant but ludicrously underrated Gary Sinise and that Greek goddess who is in it with him............ |

He gets plenty of work (mainly films, not telly) but I just think he's a much better actor than he's usually given credit for. Even in minor supporting roles he is great value ('Forrest Gump')............

I find all this British Humour is funnier than American honour (or humor!!) rather tiresome.
Comedy is as subjective as it gets. There are plenty of rubbish British and American comedies out there and plenty of gems. There will never be universal consensus on what is funny...plenty of Americans "get" British humour and vice verse - and plenty do not. That's not going to change. N. |

Right on, Norm. Although I was thinking of setting up a thread comparing Arabic comedy TV shows with Japanese ones...
Having seen Japanese television I think that would be a fair comparison...after all many Arabic shows have squealing half naked women being dunked into tanks of eels for entertainment of others don't they? N. |
