I have wondered how outsiders can get a genuine sense of the sheer wealth of the superrich Arab, especially ones in the tin-pot royal circles in the Gulf states. Much of their wealth is secret and their ownership of assets is usually surrounded in mystery. Even if you can demonstrably measure a sheikh's fortune in dollar terms it doesn't accurately reflect the buying power in everything from material assets to politics, and they have far more influence within their spheres than a standard American or European billionaire does.
