How much do you save?

There are always loads of posts regarding if a package works or not, and surprisingly different views. As they say revenue is fantasy bottom line is reality, it doesn't matter what you earn it's what you save.

So, how much, on average, do you try and save each month?

I'll vote when some others have for anonymity.

Poll would be more interesting in AED / $ / £ - rather than % which in my opinion doesn't give any insight.

I didn't realize there was such demand!

Anyway, it's not easy to figure out the boxes as packages and savings vary so much!

yeh, it's shocking really. These days are reducing now though but 80-120k monthly packages with 100-150% bonuses were not uncommon for senior management at one point.

There will always be people who earn more/ save more. They have better jobs!

Even for a similar salary, if you're half of a working couple, it's a very different story to if you're single or if your other half is a househusband/housewife.

Do you think we should do a poll on what we spend a month. (Anonymous except for the lowest being Lionheart natch)

I'm horrified by our outgoings here and i still shop at M&S for undies, gym gear and the odd frock and not Harvey Nicks. (though i have a few pairs of spenny shoes).

Ah, but you get all those benefits. Add them all up. This is exactly why the poll is an absolute amount saved rather than % (as no-one can agree on what is salary and what isn't).

its only money right- the sad thing is of the few millionaires I have know they still want something else. After all it is just money and you cant take it with you. What makes you rich is your friends and family ( yeah right give me the cold hard cash lol)

interestingly I did write about this today, some things are pricey but try and remember everything that is cheap, it balances itself out

Yes, that's a good one. Think through it though, as for instance, I pay for school fees, housing, dewa - others don't.

quite, they are also older, more experienced, willing to make other sacrifices etc. all about balance.

Re: How much do you save?

I save what I consider to be a decent amount every month, and if I compare to when we were in the UK it is like night and day.

In the UK I was lucky to have some cash left at the end of the month (which was then usually spent on holidays or what have you) whereas here I am able to comfortably save a decent amount whilst paying off all my debts back in the world. And my god there is a huge love for short term debts in the UK. Once those debts are paid off then there is more to save...

Now if only my wife gets a job as well, which is the plan eventually, we would actually be quite literally minting it. I know lots of people earn serious amounts more than me (Millhouse's example is just disgusting), but if you go around dreaming about what could have been and how much your acquaintances make then life will indeed be very sad..

Or had a better education, got into a high paying profession and had a few stokes ofgood luck along the way! (not me, by the way!)

Ok so if you had your time again would you choose a career that had big bucks in it? My earning is relatively modest here but I love what I do and can't imagine doing anything else. Now alll I need is a husband who earns big bucks lol- having said that I am still pulled towards creative men- who inevitably are not big earners  ah well better to live in a card board box and be happy than in a mansion and not!

wouldn't change a thing really. I guess the year in personal insurance was a waste of time but didn't do me any harm and set me up for the next step.

5 months in and we are just about nearly even with the move, setting up, and settling debts in the Uk costs..... For the first time this month we had a portion of the salary paid here and the rest into our Uk account, so fingers crossed we should be able to start saving soon!!!!

We save nothing, invest in various things like houses, stocks, motorbike etc, but stick money in a bank; nah!

Re: How much do you save?

My target is £12k by Xmas. Then minimum of £20k in 2012.

I'm sure many on here are on silly money still, but I like to set myself that target and hit it. Job done.

Take that money, buy a house in the UK, rent it out. Continue. Repeat.
