Default Hong Kong for holidays

Morning morning,
Has anybody been to Hong Kong? Myself and my better half are going for a week in September and would like to stay on HK island but have no idea as to where.
Would like to be able to walk into the nightlife and stay away from it if possible.
This is going to be a totally different holiday for us so want to be as prepared as possible so any advice on sights and hotels would be gratefully received.
Thanks y'all xx

Hey Crewe girl I would strongly recommend doing the big bus tour it includes a ticket for the peak tramway which is must, and I think it's the best tour of the city for first timers you can hop off and on which is great. You need to watch the light show one night. go to sevva bar one night for sundown as it has the best views. Also the pinnacle is rated but I've never been.
If you want shopping the night markets are fun but also crazy busy. We always go to a designer wholesale market where genuine designer stuff is sold at very good prices I can't remember the name of the street but will check when I'm back at work for you. There is a pretty bird garden somewhere where people take their birds for a walk which if your passing is good to see.
Wear light clothes as it will still be humid in sept. enjoy!
Kc

Great place. I love it. take pictures on your phone of (i) knives and forks, (ii) burgers, (iii) toilets, (iv) your hotel (in cantonese) - english can be a struggle sometimes and a picture goes a long way.

You cant go to HK without seeing :

a. Happy Valley Racecourse and take a flutter
b. Temple Street Night Market
c. A day (or night) at the Intercon spa
d. quick trip to macau for a bigger flutter and stay at the Sands Macao

Was there in May for a few days and would recommend a trip to Macau just to check out the Vegas style casino strip they have (Kotai I think its called). You can get a one hour ferry from HK there with no issues.

Actually all the public transport is good, especially the train from the airport. The ferry terminal is on HK island and easy to get to by taxi. Happy Valley racecourse is on the same island.
Can't remember the hotel I stayed in HK but it was nothing to write home about anyhow.

I spent a week there after the Lions v Barbarians match in June. Highly recommend a boat trip around the islands, a walk to and/or around Shek-O beach, a visit to Stanley, the Victoria Peak loop, and of course a stay at the Mandarin Oriental.
