Re: History / Army sort of question
Sigh you're all rubbish
Here are some historical Arabian militaryranks:
Am sure I have the spelling wrong for some of them but that's a very rough overview of the ranks you are probably looking for that period.

Here are some historical Arabian militaryranks:
- Sultan - Monarch, holder of power etc
- Vizier - Minister
- Malik - Basically King
- Caliph - chief ruler of all Muslims in the past - a kind of pope/emperor if you will...
- Amir - Commander
- Bey - A man who has given his oath (the Baya'a) to an Amir equivalent to a knight.
- Sheikh - Can be a religious rank, but more often meant a tribal chieftain
- Ra'is - from the Arabic for ‘Boss' usually applied to maritime ship captains.
- Qadi - Judge, Magistrate
- Sayyid - Eminent Sir or Gentleman, used to describe a descendant of Mohammad usually as well.
- Nazir - Steward, or trustee, a man chosen to be in place as a substitute in place of a land owner or a military commander, a temporary replacement.
Am sure I have the spelling wrong for some of them but that's a very rough overview of the ranks you are probably looking for that period.

Re: History / Army sort of question
He came from the Hui people who were mostly Muslims...as for his precise personal religious views - nothing has been recorded. Historians portray him as either an Orthodox muslim or a syncretist.
Given there are records in 1410 he made an offering at a Buddhist mountain temple in Sri Lanka and around 1431 he set up a commemorative pillar at the temple of the Taoist goddess Tian Fei as well and that his memorial monument (he was buried at sea) was renovated into an Islamic style years after I would say he was a synretist and would be not be tolerated by most Islamic states today.
Actually China uses him as an example of tolerance to integrate the Muslim minorities there.

Saracen was Medieval European term to describe pretty much any Muslim.
I guess any kind of historical accuracy is unimportant - are you working for Mel Gibson by any chance?
