But if they had a sharia marriage would the UK courts see it as bigamy ? Or if the second marriage took place in ME - would it be recognised in UK ? Do they have to register/attestate (? sp) their marriage certificates like we do ?

Im sure there are plenty of muslims in the UK who have more than one wife, surely the UK wont recognise it... or only give one woman a bloody passport...

Depends. Where were the marriages conducted.
There was a Bengali chap in Brick Lane who had two wives and claimed income support (social security) for both.
It turned out that he had married one in Bangladesh and brought her to UK - it was a Muslim marriage. The second he married in UK so this marriage was recognised.
Caused helluva problem for the DSS to work it out. He used to go between one and the other as his wife and common law wife and about 14 kids. They got housing, free school meals and every allowance under the sun for two households.
And these people wonder why they are disliked.

A harem is a place where the women of the household live, this is in fact the domain of the wife, daughters, grandmother, etc.
A harem is NOT a knocking shop for concubines, etc as depicted in ye olde films of arabie.

I'm pretty sure there are Muslimns in UK with more than one wife - but the second wife will not be legally (by UK legal standards) recognised. It's a case of turn a blind eye I think. Why do you want two wives any Beardman ? I just don't get that one at all - double the nagging . . .

Nikah is not recognized by the UK courts. So you could have your four Nikahs and you would not be breaking any laws, but the marriage would not be legally recognized, so on official documents you can't tick them off as your wife.
