Re: Globe Trotting .......

HK is wonderful. Not a big city and very easy to get around on their metro. It's a bit chaotic but restrained chaos, if that makes sense, so it doesn't overwhelm you. HK Island is pretty green and it's fun to wander around some of the massive towers built on rocky outcrops up in the hills because it's a WTF moment, how did they ever build this 40+ story tower on the face of a mountain? And Victoria Peak is awesome, there's so much open space up in the hills despite being one of the most dense and crowded cities in the world.

Dim sum is brilliant. Best in the world. Cheap as chips. Lots of other brilliant food. Try to go over a Wednesday so you can go to the Happy Valley racetrack for boozing and watching the horses with the rest of the expats. Coming from Dubai the bars are brilliant, very real and laid back and there's a couple streets with nothing but bars and many people also hang outside the streets, drinking the cheaper beer from the 7-11 across the way.

Ok, I said brilliant too many times, but it is a great city. My other piece of advice is to stay on HK island, not Kowloon.

You'll enjoy it that's for sure . It kind of has a little bit of everything , it's a bit wild but can have the feel of say Singapore but without the full on madness of Bangkok , saying that i like the madness , it's what makes it unique.

There's a lot to see in HK , the Sevens is decent but try not t compare it to Dubai Sevens as it's a different animal , i'd go racing in Sha Tin instead . Get over to Kowloon side up through the Northern Territories and get off the beaten track a bit . It's worth taking enough time out for a decent visit .

Dal lake Srinagar, the most beautiful place on earth. (Unfortunately has become commercialised in recent years as has the beautiful Cornwall in UK.)

Ilkley. Marrakech takes some beating, as do Nara, Kobe and Lucca.

Salalah - for the countryside around it - mountains, beaches, desert, and perfect temperatures year round. Especially like travelling offroad to get there. Shame it is so near Yemen.

With the chavs all going off to Magaluf and Pattaya, it is time for a revival of British seaside resorts.

Maybe we could persuade all the chavs to move to Magaluf and leave us to get on with life.

My garden in NE Thailand that I've been cultivating for the past ten years is my favourite place, love watching things grow over the years, fruit trees, lush tropical plants, shaded seating areas, hanging orchids, big things in pots, vegetables, teak, a fish pond.

If only I could get rid of the in-laws
