Hi all,
I've heard mixed reviews about Global Village, haven't ventured there yet but not sure if its really worth it- anyone been this year and has an opinion on it?
Cheers

Re: Global Village- any good?
I went Christmas night. It's not bad, heaps of stuff to look at and it's like a local pickup joint for local emirate teenagers which is fun to watch.

no worse than any of the malls really. They sell over priced chinese tat, global vilage sells underpriced chinese tat.
Only ones worth going to are
Nepal: some really nice bits,
Afghansitan: look for the tall skinny dude with a long beard for some nice carpets, he has a showroom in sharjah but its easier to get to global village (nb he has a new shippment of khal mohammadi carpets in)
and Yemen for some of the best honey you'll ever taste.
everywhere else is pretty much shite but its interesting to see how mad the locals go for it all, ie shopping trolleys full of shite

I've not been this year, but I ususally enjoy a wander around...it doesn't cost much to get into and it's fun in a weird kind of way.
I remember they used to have some nice Marrocan type stuff, earthenware, lamps etc...not cheap but you must haggle.
never quite understood the whole leather jackets things, there seem to be endless stalls selling those...
went to Dragon Market on Saturday, jeez, how busy was that!!!!!!!!!!!!!
People were shopping like there was no tomorrow...

I think it's worth a visit, but get there at 4.00pm when it opens. IMO best 'pavillions' are Yemen (honey, frankincense & spices), KSA (yes really - dates, coffee), Thailand and Morroco.
There is a lot of tat and much duplication, but it's interesting for a few hours before it gets mega busy later on and you can get some really nice bits in a few places. Good for people watching too.
