4l-------------4x4 is activated for on road

Hhhmmmm.

http://www.mitsubishi-cars.co.uk/features/ss.asp

basically if you never go offroad use only 2H,
if you get stuck in sand in town in a car park use 4H or 4HLC.
if its the beach and its not very soft use 4HLC
if you want to go to the beach and its very very soft use 4LLC but keep the revs at about 4500-5500rpm. (in 4LLC a pajero will go anywhere and I do mean anywhere)
never use 4HLC or 4LLC on the road, you will wreck your transmission and wont be able to take corners

wow!

My first thought when i first hired a car over here was HTF to reverse park without a clutch! Got the hang of it eventually though...

I'm thinking of boycotting them (not that I stay in them anyway...) in a form of protest that their profits go to bribing Los Angeles sheriffs
