In what way was Gascoigne a 'genius'?
Good player, of course, especially as he shone (at 23) in the not-bad-at-all England team at Italia 90, but some people put him in the Cruyff-Platini category, and he wasn't fit to lace their boots.........
Lacing their drinks on the other hand......... well, yes............

Sorry mate but I thought this thread was about the Gaza situation. Not really interested about Paul Gascoyne. He has had a good career, made buckets of money and then went off the rails...so what? Do we ever hear about Geoff Hurst or Martin Peters?

Re: The Gazza situation then....
There is a "GAZA" thread too........... this isn't it.
Buckets of money? Er, no actually.......... he had quite a few incidental 'expenses' at various times during his career..........
Hear about Hurst and Peters? No we don't - they were average players in an over-rated team that wouldn't have stood an earthly in 1966 if they hadn't been at home............

I've heard of hurst but who is peters?
Did he have a kids TV series named after him?
I used the term genious maybe a bit generously. Gazza was a magnificently talented player. Flawed by the company he kept, his geordie pisshead culture and a money grabbing slapper of a wife.
My memories of gazza
1. Greeting for england
2. Goal against us in 96
3. Numerous fab performances for my beloved Rangers, really we got him at his peak and he totally loved Glasgow. Well he would wouldn't he, he had more drinking buddies than oliver reid
4. The daz doorstep challenge he played in Kilbarcan.-classic
5. Playing the flute at Semtex Park-not wise paul, not wise
6. Burping when interviewed upon signing for lazio.
