Abu Dhab: The Meteorological Department at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) on Tuesday carried out tests to induce artificial rains.

The NCMS used aircraft to sprinkle cloud seeding salts in moist clouds heading towards Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Al Ain. The monitoring stations subsequently registered light to medium rainfalls in different areas of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The centre is planning to repeat the tests on Wednesday.

Trust me, this will not end well. Every country that has ever tried cloud seeding has givenit up as a really really stupid idea.

I honestly find this story difficult to believe, especially as on the same page of the Gulf News they talk about changing weather conditions generally. It makes me wonder if insurance companies may be able to claim that flooding caused by such rain is not an Act of God...

this story has freaked me out! I am surprised there haven't been more replies! If Dubai isn't fake enough as it is they now have the ability to control the weather!

The thunder would, I suppose, be a natural consequence from the build-up of electric charge on the artifically induced water droplets....

I'm sure Shiva can clarify.

That explains why there were signs of rain droplets on the dust on my balcony (Dubai Marina) this morning. I thought there was a leak from upstairs.

Cloud seeding is real science, and has been known to be possible since 1946 - see here.
