So... when Hodgson managed Fulham in the Europa League, he knocked out a Ukrainian team in Donetsk, then an Italian team, then a German team before losing to a Spanish team in the final.

I reckon Carroll should start up-front, not sure who he should partner, hate to say it, but probably Rooney.

Hate to say what? Start Rooney? Are you mental mate?

Rooney didn't appear fit enough to manage a full game so if he starts he'll be off early or should come on later.

Well I know f*** all about football, I support Newcastle!

But yes, Rooney and Carroll up front (OK, in effect Carroll on his own with Shrek just behind him).

I'd rather he started and came off at 60-75 mins, than come on for last 15-30 mins.

Carroll is by far our most in-form striker.

Sorry I'm with you.

Carroll not a bad option but I'd still rather see Welbeck and Rooney up top, let Danny use his pace on the pensioners with Rooney playing off / slightly deeper holding the ball, feeding Welbeck, feeding Young down the wing.

Hart
GJ (sadly) Terry Lescott Cole
Milner (to cover GJ) Parker Gerrard Young
Rooney
Welbeck

60 mins in if appropriate then bring on Walcott for Milner and Carroll for Welbeck.

England 'likely to be unchanged' - Reuters report a few minutes ago.

Sadly, that's what I expected, but I am not sure Grandad is quite right. I really hope he brings on Carroll and Walcott at some point.

Other than Hart, Lescott and Terry, it was a poor England performance. Italy thoroughly deserved to go through. At least we are spared the humiliation of another thrashing by the Germans.

Totally agree with that comment . Andrea Pirlo was the best player on the field by a mile .

The boy bossed the game and made it look easy , world class performance .

Not an English bashing comment from a Jock, but you guys were absolutely pish. Started really well but then just fell out of it completely. How Italy never won that game in regulation is beyond me. One good thing did come out of it though...

Ashley Cole missing that penalty. Not because he plays for England, because hes a totally reprehensible human being and the quality of his penalty was utter gash. Summed up how much of a cocky arse he is and he got found out...yet again!

Getting knocked out gracefully on penalties has saved you from a complete hammering from the krauts.

bye bye Engerland....
