The Guardian has picked it up also with a byline and pictures of the prisoners

I wonder if their complexions have affected the degree to which police here felt free to go to town on them?

An updated report on the BBC website as well -
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-21529006
According to the report 'A neutral party was appointed to investigate if any torture had taken place, but had found the claims to be untrue, the source said.'. Well, I for one am completely reassured!

Anyone remember the Lee Brown case?
Maybe that is what happened to Timmy too, he was arrested and beaten just a bit too much....

From The National
You gotta think that if it did happen (and I'm not saying it didn't), then surely the first port of call would be your lawyer?
However having re-read it firstly if this lawyer just acts for one of the defendants (SK/J), this is the defendant that has not made an accusation of torture - he is the one who was sent to Central Jail, and is also the one who was stood outside of the car when the police raided it, not sat in it as the other two were.
Dubai spin maybe?
A lawyer for one of the Britons, SK, told The National his client had made no mention of mistreatment at the hands of the police. "He said no such thing to me," said Emirati lawyer Yousif Al Hammadi.

The Dubai spin doctors make Alistair Campbell look like a kindergarten beginner in the black arts of dubious spin. It's no wonder that a pal of mine who's a corporate lawyer refers to the place as 'Dubious'. She hates the place and the natives, calling it a shark pond riddled with corruption and stupidity.

Re: Err. That's a bit too spicy.
What relevance is the "staying at a £1000 per night hotel"? Apart from the fact that it's bullshit (no room in Dubai costs that unless you walk up pissed at 10pm to the Burj / Atlantis and ask for best room and pay rack rate), it's completely irrelevant.

Dubai torture allegations: Britain puts economic interest before citizens
You'd have to agree with The Guardian.

It doesn't even need a lentil-brained Guardianista's to figure out which is better for the balance of payments, does it?
