Re: Emirati child rapist/murderer sentenced to death
I'm anti-capital punishment on the main basis that even the slightest chance of a miscarriage of justice is just too much of a risk, on top of the arguments about lack of deterrent and the brutalisation of society.
But when the likes of Chemical Ali get strung up, I can't say I'm sorry.

I totally disagree with this ruling.
This is a RECESSION!!
Firing squad? Why spend so much money on bullets?
Swords and metal rods can be reused. Think about the economy, people!!!!

A case against the death penalty
http://users.rcn.com/mwood/deathpen.html
Two conclusions buttress our entire case: Capital punishment does not deter crime, and the death penalty is uncivilized in theory and unfair and inequitable in practice.

Re: Emirati child rapist/murderer sentenced to death
Some guy in UK recently was freed for a crime he admitted but turns out he didn't do it....
He was a pathological liar.....it was posted about on here recently.
What if he'd been sentenced to death...
From the link above and I think it's the most critical feature:
Inevitability of Error
"Overzealous prosecution, mistaken or perjured testimony, faulty police work, coerced confessions, the defendant's previous criminal record, inept defense counsel, seemingly conclusive circumstantial evidence, community pressure for a conviction -- such factors help explain why the judicial system cannot guarantee that justice will never miscarry. And when it does miscarry, volunteers outside the criminal justice system -- newspaper reporters, for example -- and not the police or prosecutors are the ones who rectify the errors. To retain the death penalty in the face of the demonstrable failures of the system is unacceptable, especially as there are no strong counterbalancing factors in favor of the death penalty. "
Can you imagine the horror of being sentenced to death knowing full fuc.king well you didn't do it!

There are cases in history that have all that and they still got it wrong.

Re: Emirati child rapist/murderer sentenced to death
as an aside and probably an unpopular one
does nobody think its odd that there has been no comment about the fact the parents let a 4 yr old randomly wander the streets on a regular basis and that it was only when the body was brought out of the mosque that they even thought to look for their child?
just a thought
