It'll never work, it needs to run in a near-total vacuum, the pressure outside, the expansion and contracting of the 3mm thin "tube" in the temperatures today, the risks if even a small hole (possibly through a bad weld), will cause, massive, massive implosions.

Plus, cost? Must be astronomical...hence why we don't have supersonic jets anymore.
Although, thinking again - i'm sure people said flight was impossible at one point.

Different part of the tube will expand and contract at different amounts, facing and non sun facing, top and bottom, metal doesn't expand and contract uniformly.
And they're saying each pod will be launched every 30 seconds, imagine if just a short delay, a small problem, 700mph bullits in what is basically a rifle, no chance to stop?
I'll pass and take my chances on the E11 thanks.

It's also not practical in any way for the way locals live.

the way this has been broadcast all over the media, I figured this was a done deal.

A tube within a tube would easily solve your heat transference problem.

A weld hole is unlikely to cause massive crushing failure of the tube either. it's just an air leak. The tube is more likely to implode when there are no leaks.

What is the cost of building the hyperloop as opposed to a high speed / bullet train between DXB and AD? High speed trains are proven, safe and should easily make the journey in, what, 40ish minutes from Downtown to Corniche?
I'm going to Strasbourg over Christmas. 500km from Paris. The high speed train is just under 2 hours, so approx 250km per hour. Gleefully looking forward to it (yes I'm a geek).

I'm so with you on that. Had a few non engineering minded folk saying 'how construction coming along' or 'are your guys designing this'....
Course it can be done but I would bet I'll never see it in my lifetime!
