Dry Night

As many of you will be aware, alcohol will not be served on Monday night in most UAE hotel bars. Drinking resumes at 6.30pm Tuesday apparently.

Why does it sound religious? All it marks is the start of the New Year in a calendar.

well I am guessing they 'celebrated' this weekend, my point was that they have not actually moved the start of the New Year forward as such, so the rule of the dry night is still in place...

Maybe I am missing something. It's hardly relevant now that it has been established it is a dry night.

But it is just New Year, start of the calender in Islam. Is New Year in the Gregorian calendar a religious event?

yes, well, apparently 'they' classify it as a religious thing, so that's what we are dealing with, it doesn't really matter what 'we' classify as religious or not...
