Has anybody had a problem recently with their d/l speeds? Over the last 3/4 days the speed of d/ling stuff has dropped from an average of 190/210 kb/s
to about 30/40 kb/s
I have done a test for my internet speed and it says everything is ok. These speeds are the same regardless of the torrent sites I am using. I am with Etisalat if that makes a difference

Probably Etisalat are throttling torrents. You can use VPN to improve the d/l if it is Etisalat - connecting via LA gets me a d/l of approx 800kbs currently, through Du about 100 kbs max....

Some VPNs are throttled by Du. I often get better performance directly.

the other thing is to configure forced encryption of the traffic in the torrent client. this does confuse the hell out of all but the most advanced throttling methods used by isp's.

sorry i'm assuming you were talking about torrents (as mentioned by someone else)..if you're not and just talking about downloads in general then feel free to ignore me

utorrent works well for me.... and kickasstorrents site usually comes up trumps...

utorrent is the best client by far I think..

tip 1; if you don't set up uPnP or port forwarding you will connect to fewer peers (resulting in lower download speed)
tip 2; if your isp throttles p2p then enable encryption

I use bittorrent which has always worked well for me.
I have just had the Etisalat engineer here, he tested my download speed and said it is fine, I told him that I knew that already but why was my download speed so slow. He said he didn't know but then when I pushed him to tell me he said that Etisalt has blocked torrents from about 7/10 days ago!!

So I guess I will have to get a vpn...Thanks by the way Auto xxxx

There should be no need for vpn if you encrypt the traffic. At least try it before going down the vpn route. I don't think the original Bittorrent Client supports encryption though (in addition to many other features that are missing)...

the site I use for downloading torrents is fine, and I don't have a VPN, if you want an invitation to the site dm me your e mail ID

I have to use utorrent as it is the one that is compatable with the site I down load from, never had any problems, did you download the Geordie Finishing School? I am guessing it will be quite entertaining!
