But i just bought 200 and i intend to smoke them all!

I'll need to read the book again before i give it another go.

Oh well never mind

That's a shame MrsH, but don't be too hard on yourself, you're not a loser because at least you gave it a go and showed willing. You've proved to yourself that you can stop because you already went a few days without them, so the next time you decide to try and stop you will know that it's going to be difficult, but that you can do it.

I said jokingly earlier that I'm brilliant at giving up because I've done it loads of times. I have, I think about half a dozen times, the best of which lasted for about 10 months before I stupidly started again. But I will try again. I think a lot of it's in the timing and you really have to be ready to stop.

Two things that helped me. Firstly the nicorette nasal spray which gives you a shot of caffeine and nicotine, takes the craving away in a matter of seconds. Then your only problem is getting off the nasal spray, it's quite expensive (but not as expensive as smoking), and at least you won't smell of cigarettes while you do it. Secondly, light up a cigarette and have a look at yourself in the mirror while smoking.

It'll put you off big time.

Anyway, good luck when you decide it's time to have another go, and well done for having tried.

All the best,
K.

Thats the second time i've tried. First time was about 5 years ago and i lasted about 3 weeks.

I ended up starting again when i went on a night out with a group of smokers and you could still smoke in the pubs at home then.

Oh well i'll just need to try again.

Re: Did/do you smoke?

Not read the whole thread but for anyone struggling to give up I would recommend a drug called Champix - it is not a nicotene replacement - it blocks the nicotene receptors in the brain. My OH gave up with this easily - felt a bit queezy after taking the tablets but only lasted about 5 minutes. It may be sold under a different name in Dubai (if you can get it at all)

Just a suggestion...

You put quite a bit of pressure on yourself by telling everyone you were stopping, why not (the next time you try to stop) give up for a few days, maybe a week, before telling anybody?

I don't know what's best really, and I'm hardly in a position to advise, but some people find it more difficult to give up smoking than others. It's no reflection on you or your performance, and I think that you will be able to stop when it's important enough to you.

Anyway, don't get too down about it. Have another go when you're ready and meantime could you pass me the lighter please?

Willpower, Mrs H....

People who end up in prison manage to quit, well until they get into the system and get their first batch of goodies.
But for those who get lost in teh system, it can be 3 weeks before they get the chance to shower, let alone a ciggie....
I know, the minute htye get the chance, , they are back to their old habits, but it CAN be done.

You will not let a tiny piece of paper rolled around some vegetable matter defeat you. I don't know you, but I know you can do it.

give her a break, when she really wants to give up she will, she doesnt seem mentally ready so let her enjoy herself and when you she is ready she will give it another go, if she has gone out and bought another 200 it is very unlikely she is NOT going to smoke them.
