We have a Nespreso machine (husband's second hand Dhs 100 bargain) but rarely use it as we prefer cafetiere coffee. Useful when an emergency espresso life is required.

Nespresso capsules are metalic, other are plastic, but they are all examples of excess packaging. Sadly few people seem to care in the UAE and the level of groundfill rubbish produced per capita here is shocking.

Think the husband is looking at getting a new machine to which you add proper beans and it grinds the right amount for each cup of coffee you require. No other packaging required.

Blue Cat - prepackaged milky coffee? Eurgh and Tsk! Must be a coffee mate type substance in there and that is one of the vilest 'foodstuffs' known to man.
I hate coffee mate, this tastes nothing like coffee mate, it's just milk powder of some form. I am not a huge coffee drinker but I do like my iced cappucinos

Agreed, and Agreed. I don't tolerate bad coffee and especially not just for the convenience.

Milk powder in the pod sounds just about the right target market they are aiming for.

Exactly. The thinking mans coffee machine - and makes a nice noise. Nespresso is mass market rubbish.

Worst capsules are a mix of plastic and metal...

I must be a coffee chav as we have that exact machine at work and I do like the ease and taste of it. Much prefer the Douwe Egberts one cup filters which make a really rather jolly brew (no4 strength) but for speed this machine is super. Plus the company buys them not me

Caffettieras just take too long and are too much mess IMO

What we need BC, are some 'independent' reviews all blogged and photographed. Know anyone?

Best coffee machine. Uses freshly-ground beans, cheap, convenient and re-cyclable.

Together with one of these and a microwave, makes superb cappuccino.

A cafetiere just takes a few minutes. Surely you can spare that for a decent cup of coffee? M&S do some suprisingly good and well priced ground coffees.

I like it, but it's quite a dark roast and can taste bitter when you prefer a longer black coffee as I do.

On the topic of coffee I am always amazed at the queues I regularly see at the drive-through Starbucks on Beach Road in the evenings. No idea how these people sleep at night with that much caffeine inside them so late in the day.

I Like coffee from them, its just the cleaning afterwards. I never managed to get all the old coffee out of the filter and into the bin without hoofing some of it on the floor when you tap the filter on the side of the bin. Also I never got enough out of one as even though it was expresso ground powder and strong; I do like a mug of the stuff which is about 3 goes on the cooker. Great high all the same

I really don't like any of those places full stop, in MOE there is a coffee place called Cafe Supreme who do a good coffee.

I'm sensing a lot of coffee snobbery here.

I love the taste of the Nespresso coffee, so what's the problem? It takes maximum a minute to make, no fuss at all.

You are ruining your planet NorthernLad. Don't you feel horribly guilty?

And yes I am a bit of a coffee snob!
