Coffee Pod Things

Ladies and Gents,

I am in need of some help.

I recently bought myself one of these (I've now officially made it in life):

http://www.appliancist.com/krups-pic...olce-gusto.jpg

But as nice as Carrefour were at flogging me it and chucking in some of the free pod / capsule things, I've now run out. They appear to not bother selling them either....or I can't find where they are.

They come in boxes like this:

http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/asse...174117276c.jpg

The pods themselves look like this:

http://the-gadgeteer.com/wp-content/...ce-gusto-2.JPG

Now you're all up to speed, I have two questions:

1. Does anybody have this machine and know where I can buy more pods?

2. If anyone sees some will they buy me several boxes of the plain Americano pods please? You will be rewarded with a tip of no more/less than 5dhs.

Thanks in advance

#firstworldproblems

Take it back and get a Nespresso. Far better and can get the refills in MoE.

I know Virgin in MoE sell the Nescafe machines, not sure about refills.

Virgin? ****ing bizarre. I'll check.

Thanks pal.

Won't take it back, it's quality and wasn't too expensive.

Quality might be stratospheric but if you can't get the pods it's all a bit pointless..

I'm seeing your point.

I haven't trawled the city for them yet but was amazed that they weren't in the obvious location in Carrefour.

Actually, scrap that, I wasn't amazed, I did the classic Dubai sigh and shrug... before lambasting myself for being foolish enough to think they'd be in the coffee / tea aisle.

That link gives Carrefour as an outlet...so maybe asking on a forum is the better option?

You see that's where you went wrong. Now if you'd looked in the toilet cleaning accessories you'd probably have found them. Or next to the frozen chickens. Or CDs, basically any and everywhere but in the coffee/tea aisle.

Actually, thanks. Union Co-Op is a good shout that I hadn't considered.

You look all useless and mean, but you can be helpful sometimes

I know, I know. I did go round Waitrose with only them in mind. Ended up forgetting ham for my sarnies which was disappointing.

I even looked amongst the kettles and bins and crockery.

I definitely didn't ask for them either. Young Filipino bloke having an even younger fat white Brit asking him where he can find the capsules for his coffee machine.....I'd struggle to not feel like such a massive bell end.

Can I do that on my iPhone? If I just start a voice recording? Or will it only record my end of the call?

If I can do it, I will, then we'll worry about how to upload it on here.

I get them in LuLu and Choithrams, never had a problem finding them, in Carrefour they are actually with the machines not in the coffee isles. I prefer it over the Nespresso I am honest, I have both :)

You've got both?

FFS, I thought I'd made it and was finally big time....you've just shattered that.

Choithrams, I'll go for food shop there then. Did you know the car washing lads in the one by Safa only charge 10dhs....compared to 25 in Dubai Mall. Union co-op is next door so can do two birds with one stone.

Thanks BC.

husband prefers the Nespresso I prefer the Dolce Gusto, simply because you don't have to have milk in the house as it comes with milk capsules and they do a wicked iced cappacino and the child loves the hot chocolate. Nespresso is just coffee however their new caramel and chocolate coffee is nice :)

I was of the same opinion until someone bought us a Nespresso machine for Christmas.

It didn't for me, it cut the recording as soon as I hit the call button. Didn't matter anyway, I'd dialed VOX cinemas instead

Iced Coffees? Shit the bed, I need to try that.

What about Tassimo T4 machine? Currently on at £30 in UK but you get a code for a voucher worth £20 off of the pods, so effectively £10.

What do you do with the capsule?

It's metal. All that energy and resource making the capsule straight into the ground for a coffee. Multiply that by millions of coffees a day...

This is a great example of new ideas unnecessarily increasing resource usage for no real benefit. What is wrong with a machine that crushes beans rather than this processed stuff - it tastes better too.

I'm well aware I'm on very thin ice making these statements with my environmental footprint, but I do sort of draw the line at this.

Its plastic, not metal....if that makes it worse for you?

I'm sure there are plenty of examples of things like this that lots of people use.

But: who wants a coffee grinder? Who wants to have to deal with that? Who says it actually tastes better?

I can get up and have a latte or cappuccino or espresso or anything I want without having to go to a Costa / Starbucks etc...I bet if I did go to those my environmental footprint would be bigger than letting this bad boy make them at home for me.

No it won't, and AFAIK that's to comply with US (and most other) laws which prohibit recording of phone conversations (your own, not those between two other parties) unless you declare up front that you're doing so (hence all the recorded warnings whenever you phone a company that is going to record the conversation). And also AFAIK there isn't an App that gets round it (I've looked).

A friend, long ago, had a device that wrapped around the microphone cable that he used with his phone, which then fed into a Walkman that he recorded conversations on. I guess that would work.

I'm way too lazy to do that for a 10 second call that won't be too funny anyway. Good tip though.

Re: Coffee Pod Things

These pods coffee machines are a scam in the same way printer ink cartridges are.

Let me guess, the machine was a bargain? Be sure to let us know if you ever see the coffee pods on special anywhere.

Its a similar pricing structure to printer cartridges, and I'm sure you guys all know how expensive they are ~ $3000 USD a litre

Do yourself a favor and calculate the price per KG of the pod coffee, then keep in mind that they contain additives and is not 100% pure coffee.
