Coffee in Abu Dhabi
Is there anywhere nice to grab a coffee or other hot beverage on the island itself, preferably up near the ministerial areas, and preferably not a terrible chain?
Will be hanging around Abu Dhabi aimlessly for a little bit on Wednesday, and maybe trying to see a friend (or client) or two... other offers of company also accepted

If I have the right area (beside adnec is roughly the ministerial area)? The Aloft hotel is decent enough.

The One (yes, it has a restaurant/coffee shop) and Emirates Palace (infamous gold dusted EP coffee). Plus you have quite a few decent coffee shops at Marina Mall. All are no more than 5 mins drive from Al bateen area - which ministry buildings will you be visiting - there are a few in Al Bateen?

The coffee shop in the French restaurant in Novotel is good, if a bit small. Nice gateaux.

Re: Coffee in Abu Dhabi
The best coffee and nicest coffee shop in AD is Jones the Grocer. It's the only coffee i drink here now and i go every morning to pick one up. It's a very high end brand from Oz and it feels it in terms of standards. The Crown Prince is in it most days too, as his office is upstairs and the folk in it are quite smart.
Basically, looking up island to the corniche, you turn right onto 15th from 4th. You do the uturn just before the end (300m from the lights on 4th), then take 1st right road, signposted to Urban Planning Council. Drive to the first junction (300m again) and it's there on the ground floor on your right. Park just after Jones slightly further up in the car park on the right as the other spots can be busy.
Does that make sense!

I personally wouldn't go there for a quite drink though - it's an industrial style canteen. Too wannabe with all the Mo watchers.
what's wrong with IKEA? 2Dh for a cuppa...
