Anyone got any hot tips on where to get a reasonable price for a new battery?

It's my mates car and she is going to sell it after Xmas so cheaper the better.

Looking for a 12V, approx 60AH & approx 500CCA.

Sharjah?

I used 800 battery last year and were probably far from cheapest but extremely easy.

Quick search finds them in the UK (or similar) for £80. So that's under 400 dizzers. I bet one can be found at a garage or in Al Quoz for that.

Cheers. That's what I was thinking. Can't be arsed going into Sharjah...... and probably not Al Quoz either....

I did a quick google too and there's millions of those 800 battery type sets ups. I may just ring a few up and see who gives me the best deal. And I may drop into an Epco or similar on the way home.

Then again, it isn't my car and I aint paying so......

Satwa. Park in the first car park by the roundabout
and get the guys to do it.

Don't pay more than 250. Work hard and youll get it for 220.

It will last until you sell it.

400dh in satwa will get you a "green battery" (Armco or something). They are very good batteries that last ages - OEM on Nissan.

What car is it?
Is this a big battery? I'm assuming not?

It's not a major cost and a cheap one will suffice until it's sold...

Blimey, all sounds rather cheap out your way.

I just put a new one in today and it was $180 all in and that's with us returning the old battery to save on the $22 core charge. It was a 790 crank amp battery, only $7 more than the 730 crank, which was what it replaced but this had a 3 year replacement warranty v 18 month.

The 250dh will last a year. The 400dh one maybe 3 if you're very lucky.

Yep - they suddenly die, no warning whatsoever, has happened to me several times, always in the hot summer months, and of course, generally in the most awkward of situations, not at home.

I got the tiniest shred of warning the second time. The first, nope, happened during a work day....which means unless you want to undo the battery, get it out, get a cab to a Satwa or similar, buy another, return to car, fit yourself and hope you haven't done something wrong....you ring 800.

To be fair 800 do a sterling job. Show up as promised (generally), test your battery and alternator and replace as needed for what I considered to be a bargain last time I was stuck in an underground garage.

Satwa may be okay for small and older cars, but if you have a big SUV I wouldn't risk it. And by the way if you have a new-ish BMW don't change your battery with anyone who doesn't know what they are doing as there is a reset of some sort that needs to be done or you are likely to burn out thousands of dirhams of electronics..

800 are excellent. I loved the fact he said; i'll do these tests to make sure it's x or y etc. Did them, showed me, said it means battery is gone and nothing else. Service was great.

I moaned to my old man that 8-900 on a battery felt a lot and he asked what I expected for a big engine. Is what it is.

Never used 800 battery but the last two times I used Dial a Battery who were equally as good as the above. This was on a Beemer 3 series and again, they did the testing and resetting. Excellent service and a fair price.

We get a bit of a warning when the cold kills them. An out of the blue fail to start but a jump gets it going usually good for a couple of weeks, then repeat for another week or so and then after that, it's jumping it almost every other start if you don't replace the battery.

That said, the last battery, when that died, it died straight off but tested as a faulty battery.
