Re: Bloody Middle Eastern drivers!!
I broke down on my way home on the Eastern Ring Road here in Riyadh last night.
Mind you i wasnt in any way causing any traffic problems i was clear .
One bright muppet in a police car comes up and pushes me off the road and onto the hard standing.
The police did more dammage to my car than the original problem was.
I was there waiting for the tow truck to arrive, when a second police car car arrived this was a Sgt very nice enough chap, he asked me what had haapened i told him one of your muppets did the damage.
He wasnt happy.
But i said it was ok not his fault.
But he was more than happy to stay untill the tow truck arrived and me on my way down Saniya, he even give us an escort up untill J16 near IKEA.
Which i thought was nice of him.
As for the other brain dead muppet.
Just spoke to my Car Mech he said the damage all in all was about 1800 Riyals.
About 250 of that is the police fault.
i was glad i had that membership for the break down service on me.

Terrible driver.
At 1:02 he entered a roundabout without checking for oncoming traffic from the left.

That's bloody impressive! Better lane discipline than you see from most drivers out here. Probably an instructor letting his hair down.
Received an apology from a policeman today. Unfortunately it was as he handed me a speeding ticket. "Sorry sir." "That's ok, you're doing your job." He must have been all of 17. Apparently I went through a trap (was on the phone at the time) and first I knew was an ordinary white Toyota saloon behind me with a magnetic blue flashing light on top flashing his lights. 3 blokes inside in dishdashes--didn't show me any ID, took my licence and registration, sat in their car for 5 mins, then handed me the ticket. I was doing 109 in a 100 limit. Just as well they didn't catch me this morning at 180. Can't decipher how much the fine is, but there are some big looking numbers on there. This on Airport Road heading into AD.

They do need cops in civvies to take a look at speeding, tailgating, etc etc.
You're right about the lane discipline though.

Nah, its a fair cop guv. Just wish they'd concentrate on bad driving rather than speeding.

As much as this is irresponsible yadda yadda yadda there is something quite cool about this, I was always scared of doing wheelies on my bmx as a kid sure it must be quite scary in a car as well!
I had a motor bike wheelie past me on the M1 for as long as I could see him and I was doing close to 100 must admit there was a bit of a Grease Lightning feeling!

they have been out in their "white" undercover cars for a good few weeks now, see them regularly driving down wacky races many times a day. no uniform etc. they do also seem to be pulling over more than just the speeders, they are targetting the mobile phones and seat belts brigade, so if you drive correctly you will not be spotted.

Re: Bloody Middle Eastern drivers!!
i think it starts at 500 now and then goes up 100 dhs per 10 kms over you are doing, so hopefully for you you were just coming into town on airport road up by car4 etc as the speed limit is 80 there, so 100 is fine, but further into town the speed limits are only 60 so read 80, otherwise you will be up for a big fine being 30 over speed limit (technically). cant you decipher the arabic numbers? check the website after 3 days and see if its come up.
