I believe you don't need to file a polic report provided you tell the repairing garage you clipped a wall or something. Alternatively, you can ask around for a no-questions asked garage, or you can also just file the police report (but significant hassle for zero benefit).

A police report will also involve being fined 400 for the temerity of involving them and not having the guilty party to hand.

Fix and repaint is usually 500 per panel. What’s your excess?
