Just had a quick trip to Bahrain on Friday for sport.
Visa on arrival is very expensive, immigration horribly slow (1-2 counters only) and heavily armed police every 1-2 km on the highways. Can't say I'd be tempted by a move there.
Bahrain Rugby Club was a nice spot for re-hydration though

Living in Bahrain is a damn side better than Saudi!
Despite the armed police, who are not everywhere, only in the potential trouble spots. And we've just had the anniversary of the Arab Spring in Bahrain so they would have been edgy!

Police and other security include many non-Bahrainis. Many are from Baluchistan.
