I wish they wouldn't keep referring to KSA a "ultra-conservative", as the definition of conservative includes "conventional in style, tending to be moderate"...

I think thats far too kind, they would be conservative by Iron Age standards. Even many millenia ago, most cultures didn't wrap their women in a mobile prison.

Brit Radio 1 DJ grooverider imprisoned in Dubai for 4 years over £10 worth weed in his pockets. The chap says he just forgot it was there.
4 bloody years for 2.1 grams of weed. Were Dubai authorities scared that he was gona corrupt innocent Emiratis with such an insignificant amount?

And the Independent story was lifted from the Daily Mail, two weeks earlier.
I think I get the picture now, The Mail probably ignored other evidence that convicted this guy, to sensationalise the story, as they have done since the paper was a staunch supporter of Hitler and Mosely's black shirts.
