A colleague is moving back to UK and asked how much an average house move costs in terms of moving costs / shipping etc.

Said I'd ask here..

Any ideas - I've no idea - ave. 3 bed house with furniture etc - a 40 foot container load (or less?).

What do you think to approx costs would be?

Hello Auto me old matey.

It cost me 3500DHS to ship the contents of my 2 bed flat in AD to the UK last year - as you say, 40FT container.

The cost included a small troupe of Keralites in blue uniforms to carefully pack my junk into several stadia worth of rain-forest - I swear there was more volume of packing material than there were belongings.

It was then another £300 or so to get it from the docks delivered to my gaff, and about £50 to get casual labour to lump and hump it off the delivery van.

I did phone around a few shipping agents to get quotes - I think this rate is about right. Inse ought to be able to advise better?

Great price. I've just had 4.5 m3 picked up from the UK and is soon to be on its way over here... cost was 950 quid = approx 5700 AED, door to door... this is way less than a 20 foot container in terms of volume, let alone a 40 foot one. This was the best quote I got after a lot of research, phone calls and e-mails.

Also, 40 foot for a 2 bed appt??? That's massive - did you take the entire apartment as well as the contents??

Turbulent times indeed - we lost 50 guys off the team earlier this year, but that should be it for the next year or two (actually, a load of the guys who took redundancy packages are now back working on contract because the cuts were too severe to remain competitive!!). Should be fine unless Renault choose to follow BMW's example! Just need to ditch Nelson now!

No glamour and pit babes for me, sadly - I'm chained to the wind tunnel so you won't be seeing me in AD.
