Anybody Homeless?
Surprised nobody has mentioned the huge fire at Jumeirah Lake Towers early this morning. Hopefully no BE members have been directly affected. The 34 storey Tamweel Tower (in U cluster) has been completely evacuated for at least 24 hours with several dozen apartments from the 15th floor upwards totally gutted. Fortunately no fatalities or serious injuries reported.

Re: Anybody Homeless?
Interesting how Mentalist titled the thread 'anyone homeless', not 'is everyone ok' or similar. Anyone would think he was looking for bad news...

Re: Anybody Homeless?
Nothing was reported in Sand Pit, where I normally check for news of this nature. As for my attitude, I was simply looking to see if any help was needed. Bloody Hell, some people on here can be so cynical. At least I didn't make this shameful comment "At 2am on a Saturday? The building would have been full. Let's hope so."

Re: Anybody Homeless?
Yet another, and I dare say not the last! I hope sincerely, that there are no injuries or fatalities. I too have lived in Dubai for a long time, and I am fully aware of the 'Perverse' Press Reporting which goes on; as previous comments have made clear.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. However, the 'Cause' appears to be almost secondary. The 'Effect' has been almost identical to the last two recent events. Just like the Tecom and Sharjah Towers previously, the fire spread at an alarming rate. From the photographs and the video, it would appear that the Composite Material used for the external cladding exacerbated the fire. Hot gasses from combustion, travelled through the Cladding Void, which was not Fire Stopped! – They should be, but very rarely are.
There also appear to be deficiencies in the Compartmentation of the Facades, and the Buildings also. What happened in all three instances is very similar to the 'Trench Effect,' which occurred on the Kings Cross Escalator in 1987. Coincidentally, that was exactly 25 years ago today! (18 November 1987)
Fire Retardant Composite Cladding is available, and has been for many years. However, it is substantially more expensive than the cheaper options imported from China, which are not Fire Resistant.
Again, we have seen the fundamentals of Fire Design being abandoned; either out of ignorance, or to save cost. I would suggest both, as the 'Consultant' for both the Tecom, and Tamweel towers, was the same.
Short memories appear to prevail also. Has there been any resolution to the catastrophic fire which engulfed the Villagio Mall in Doha? - Or any other recent episodes for that matter?

Why would that be? Some sort of convection principle known only to scientists or something?
Just curious.............
