I hope Obama does what was mentioned on the news the other day and just issues an executive order for stricter gun control which apparently means it doesn't need to be passed by Congress and Senate. He could go down in history as the one president who had the balls to stand up to the NRA...

I'm sure that the legislators had machine guns in mind when the second amendment to the constitution was written in the 18th century.

I actually got shot down (pun intended) on this forum when I commented along these lines post-Sandy Hook. I think Obama privately would like to do it but as long there are votes to be lost, I can't see it happening sadly.

Well he has won the elections now, doesn't need those votes unless he is afraid of them coming after him with their stockpile of guns (the amount of which I am sure can arm the rest of the world twice over!)

Yep. Obama has nothing to lose. He can't be thrown out of office (not for this anyway) and can't be re-elected.
