The things I do not understand in this.

1) Jailing a tourist who has lost his wife to 'Suicide' because he 'smells of alcohol'

2) No court case until 30th April - for a simple alcohol charge (Which is generally a fine same as drink driving)

3) 4 Days in Jail for smelling of Alcohol?

Anyone have any answers for these?

It seems a bit weird. I thought I had read somewhere that he had left the UAE several days after his wife was killed.
The police list it as suicide, but say that she had been drinking heavily before she fell... accidental death surely??

I know a few people that have been done for alcohol, Embarrassingly myself included and I dont know anyone that was held for 4 days unless they have gone straight to court and got their fine.

So scheduling a court case for a month later is not for Alcohol as they have been given time to build a case/defend a case. Alcohol you admit to and pay the 2k, lesson learned and job done.

Weird. If they can arrest all tourists, hold them for 4 days and then schedule a court appearance a month later for just drinking, how are any hotel bars in operation?

It'll be interesting to see what happens next. Otherwise, hotels are going to be screwed.
