Yeah, that's right. I need you guys again.

Auto, Shiva, Bahtat - I'm looking at you chaps.

Mummy Scamp wants a camera for Xmas, not a big SLR like I have or a tiny little compact one with zero features.

She's done a course on photography so obviously knows everything now, but fair play, she wants to take nice pics. She wants something with a half decent zoom, something with good manual settings (but not requiring a rocket science degree) and good macro?

This is the one I bought the mrs, I think, it's a bit dated now but takes some great shots; Samsung thing

Any sensibly priced suggestions? Perhaps up to the 200 quid mark.

I'm looking on a couple of camera sites as we speak but any pointers would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance

Otherwise I'm looking at this; Samsung one

Or this

Nikon

Or perhaps this:

Another Nikon

The problem I clearly have is my budget of something around £200 so there will need to compromise somewhere.

Without looking yet could you go second hand to get more bang for buck. The uk has a pretty active second hand camera market so there shouldn't be a hirtage if options

Idiot logic here, as this is my darling mother.

She'd almost certainly rather get a good, new camera instead of an excellent, used camera. I know, I know, but this is what I'm dealing with.

At the moment I think the Lumix one is winning.

Get a Panasonic Lumix with a leica lens. I have one that is 6+ years old and it's great.

Fair enough, try amazon for older models then. They drop in price pretty quickly despite being perfectly good cameras once the model has been superseded

I got a Sony RX100; bought it new when it was released in fall/winter of 2012 . It is now discounted due to release of rx100 II.

RX100 has gotten great reviews and been touted as a 2nd camera for pros due to its rather small size and great picture taking quality. It has a built in Zeiss branded lens. I like it, takes great pics and operation is pretty straight forward.

£389.95

Wot he said.

Alternatively a Fuji. Not au fait with the current crop of cameras, but Fuji have always produced excellent cameras and lenses, and I would imagine have something comparable to the other makers' offerings.

I did my own head in researching for mine and got

http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/So...er-shot_HX300/

In my eyes and most of the 1,000,000 websites and shops I visited the best value for what you actually get.

(I have tried mine out and the pictures are amazing even when zooming)
