Iphone fan boy here
Been with it since the 1st version but am never the one to be first in line to buy the latest one, I always wait till the latest generation is out so I buy the one exactly before that one to save money
only this time I went with the iphone 7 plus coz Du offered a good deal and I wanted a larger screen as frankly I am getting older and the phone is only there for work whatsapp now, its a great phone btw, fast and should keep me happy for the next 2 years (my iphone 5 lasted 2 years as well, great phone that as well)
I dont care about cameras or storage space, have never uploaded anything to the cloud as I like to wear tin foil hats and I dont switch to Android because it is the principle that is involved here, Android is a stolen idea from Apple.

Apple aren't a technology company, they're a nerds marketing wet dream.

They sell shit to arseholes at massively inflated prices because they can.

I would think that of the 48% remoaners 99% of them own an Apple product.

Android for me, just to avoid the whole trapped ecosystem/wilful incompatibility of Apple.

I prefer Sony of the android offerings; though I have rooted the phone and deleted all of the pre-installed bloatware.

Agree with all of the above and am a Blackberry Android user, mainly because of the slide out keyboard.

What did you mean by 'rooting' your phone?

I believe its the Android equivalent of 'Jailbreaking' it. Tried with a previous Samsung I had, though being a superficial user, I didn't really appreciate any benefits it brought.

Having voiced my preferences for the Mac OS - the whole thing went very sour last night. Logged onto to my Macbook Pro and my entire set of documents have now vanished. After some tinkering around, the laptop now refuses to start. B*st@rd thing.

Serious question - what would I replace it with?

Thought about a Microsoft Surface 4 thing. Might even break away from teh tradtional laptop thing. I'm not that heavy a user. Some work type stuff ( Word / Excel / Powerpoint ) , Email and then some watching movies online. Would want it to sync with my iPhone - although after last night, might even ditch that too.

over the years I've had most brands of phone and most software ecosystems. Ive hacked phones with custom operating systems etc to get exactly what i wanted at the time.

I've now stuck with an iphone for a few generations, its easy, mostly works as its supposed to and the app store is much nicer than the android store. I've got a jail broken ipad and use it for exactly one thing, kodi.

To be honest they all suck eventually and none are a complete solution, they are all individually better at one thing than another and they all have faults including shite battery life.

I dont get the whole android and or apple fan boy and hatred thing. Buy the phone you want and why care what someone else uses?

i could list a dozen faults with each major ecosystem and there will likely never be a definitively best system so who gives a **** really.

My first smartphone was a Samsung and I've stuck with them ever since, mainly because I know how to find my way round it easily. Plus nothing else I own is Apple, so I didn't want to bother with compatibility issues.

I honestly don't see any massive difference between them these days, apart from FB goes mad for a few days with people complaining when their iOS upgrades make something stop working.

I have a habit of breaking screens due to UDIs (Unidentified drunken incidents), so am getting a Samsung S7 Active I'll give it a month until I smash it.

my first smart phone was the iphone 4 - absolutely loved it...I then got the 4s, then the 5, then the 5s and currently have the SE...I refuse to buy any of the later versions because I find the screens way too big to fit in my pocket/handbag.
I did buy the 6 when it came out, when to the loo and the next thing I know it had dropped out of my back jeans pocket and into the toilet...it was a gonner after that.
I've had a mac pro for about 5 years...absolutely hate it....will never get a mac.
I have an ipad which I use purely for FB, youtube and other apps.
I'm dumb as sh*t when it comes to anything IT and so changing over to android is definitely not an option for me.

Andriod over iphone any day.

Far more open architecture to the locked and closed mac O/S.

Currently using M9 HTC which was to move away from Samsung - i keep my phones in my shirt pockets (does anyone believe the crap regarding it affecting your heart ??)

I'll be switching from Apple to Samsung when the latest model comes out for three reasons;

1) Apple removed the headphone socket (i know you can buy adapters but that's a whole issue in itself with Apple)
2) I've played with the S7 Edge and it is a thing of beauty. The screen is simply amazing and the photos they take are outstanding. The S8 should be equally if not more amazing.
3) I'm sick of Apple telling me my icloud account is full and I refuse to subscribe for additional data. 5GB of free data is an absolute joke.

So, I will be slowly but surely de-appleing myself.

Rooting it (if you are not Australian :lol:) means basically getting root access to the phone, which allows you to add to or delete things from the system. It's a fairly simple process once you've done it once or twice.

One of the big benefits other than deleting unwanted manufacturers or service providers apps, is that you can also install various adblockers which won't work otherwise. Removes all those annoying banners etc.
