I heard that the licor shop in Al Ain is open this month.
Haven't been there.
Hotel bars are open after sunset and sells booze.

But Ikea...they are still open right? No man or woman should be forced to 'go without' when it comes to a wide variety of Scandanavian flatpack furniture.

LSD, it really allows you to admire the more contemporary designs as the creater would have through his yellow sunglass rimmed eyes. :D

great to read that I am not the only one who does miss just a screw after the wardrobe is almost finished. grrrrr....:curse:

They should also add a warning that after you finally succeed to set up the wardrobe that you are not allowed to put clothes in it otherwise the wardrobe will fell down.

Yeah, I've got a pot of woodglue I use for just such occasions. It actually makes the whole thing much more rigid and stable as well :p.

Form and function? Sounds novel. You ask a lot from poor old Sven, He probably has to come up with a new range every day just to keep up as well as packing all the screws und bolts. :D

Wright, let's go back to the alcohol topic.
How do you people survive during Ramadan.
Just went to the restaurant here in the hotel.
Was there at 06.30 pm but had to wait for half an hour before they start serving alcohol.
But at least I could have a drink.
Bit boring by the way without any music.

People in AD will remember a time (not so long ago) when hotels and restaurants could not serve alcohol at all during Ramadan and all bars were closed so think yourselves lucky now

Well said. Here in Kuwait there are boozers but not very many and quite a lot just give up drink forever - permanently and are content that way.

My perspective is that there is too much dependence - not condeming it but not participating either..

Well, just as I say it.

I mean, I cannot do without my bottle of water at the pool or at the gym.
But this is not allowed at the moment. If I do not drink, I get dizzy
Even a cigarette by the pool is forbidden.

So I just ask how do you survive/manage this?

Do not get me wrong that you think I have something against the Ramadan, and yes I do follow these rules but I think it is a bit hard.
And just ask how you deal with this, as I suppose you all managed with this before.

After been to the mall and standing outside with my shopping cart waiting for a taxi takes sometime ages.
Last week about 30 minutes. Standing there i the heat I could use some water. Which was possible because Ramadan wasn't started yet.
But this month I can't, and I won't.

So again, I have nothing against the Ramadan.

it is down to where you shop, you can smoke and eat in Mall of the Emirates, if you know where

just work around it....go to the gym at night, swim a little shorter, do your shopping early in the morning when it's still pleasant outside...it's only for a few weeks and we can still eat and drink all we like when we are at home...it's not a big deal...

Well Blue Cat, and that's the point.
I do not know where.
Therefore my question.
By the way I live in AL Ain and I understand that the mall of Emirates is not here.

oh well you are finished then!! I will be surprised if you can't get water by the pool at the Hilton, or at the little indoor pool bar. Most hotels have to keep an outlet open for the tourists.

Do they search peoples bags for water bottles then? :D

If it was really a huge bother why not put one in your handbag and only drink it where there is no one else around to see you.

reminds me of one year when I was out here on holiday in the 80's, Ramadan was in May!! everyone at the pool at water bottles and long straws hidden in sports bags :)

I stay in the Intercontinental.
And the pool bar is closed.
They told me here that I cannot drink my bottle of water at the pool.
I do can walk inside to the changing room and have a zip overthere.

But I realize that I must be lucky that there are here bars and restaurants open after 7.00 pm.

I respect the rules and will not brake them.
Even when housekeeping comes in I put my glass of water away.
So please do not think that I am a person who kicks against the rules.
I just wonder how you manage.

I'm wondering how you make it from one day to the next. What with having to wait until 6.30pm to get a drink at the bar and not being able to smoke while you lounge by the pool.

Just a hint. You can eat, smoke, drink - do whatever you want - in your own room.

You naughty scoundrel! Incidentally, I got an e-mail from MMI y/day saying that all of their Dubai booze outlets are staying open. Mostly 10.30am to 9.00pm except two small ones that don't open until 12noon. Their RAK branch is shut.
