What ho, chaps and chappesses....

12 years ago, it was Dubai for the first time, 4 years ago, it was AbDabs for the first time, and now it looks like Im returning to Dubai...

Just a quickie.

Any area's that I would likely be looking to rent in that have gone seriously downhill in the last few years? Thinking Jum, UmSuq, AR, DSC, possibly Barsha....?

Depends what you want, If it's an apartment I'd look around City Walk, for a villa I'd still say Um Seq or Jum.

It's a renters market now...a few colleagues in completely different areas of Dubai have all been able to get their rents reduced significantly when renewing recently.

I'd be more inclined to choose an area I want to live in...you'll remember from the past that this wasn't always possible unless paying a lot of money.

Those areas will only have a reduced quality in terms of the current of populace because I'm not there.

Other than that, all lovely I assume.

Yeah, landlords seem a lot more open to negotiations now. A friend in one of the big local businesses lost his job in the summer, They were trying to rent the house out in ranches as decided to leave Dubai. The estate agent told him they are seeing a 'change in demographics' with newcomers having less to spend on rentals.

We are in Marina Residence on The Palm, the landlord just asked to put rent up, I checked on PropertyFinder and found two apartments the same as ours in same building for 15K less. Landlord agreed to renew the same day with no increase.

They were on about this on the Business Breakfast this morning. Confirms the view that people are still flooding in but package expectations are way down.
