SO what would you do if you were the wiers? Would you go public after winning such a massive amount of money? and what sort of person writes a begging letter- do you think they are genuine people who are desperate or nasty pieces of work who are scamming?

I would not go public! But I do believe I could handle such a sum responsibly!!

It is interesting that the promoters don't offer you any assistance if you don't go along with their publicity campaign. However I guess it is all in the "small" print somewhere?!!!

Agree. Would only want no publicity to avoid the beggars and potential hangers-on!!

Also I am not the type who would not give up their job etc.

I would resign giving the agreed notice period the day the cheque cleared!
