We have a diesel car, the diesel is more expensive than Aus but we do not need to travel as far or use the car as often and we also have a brilliant economic car which also helps. In all honesty I cannot think of anything else we find is more expensive here than in Aus.

Even with the higher fuel cost much of that is nullified by the fact that you pay anything up to $1000 registration and even $600 for just a little car.

Blidy hell that's gone up since I left the UK. I think it was £125 a year when I left, if memory serves me well.

The figures were in $'s so clearly I was referring to Australia, also we dont pay registration here.

It now depends on the emissions and engine size of your car. Some cars dont have to pay for road tax.
