Angry "Underbelly" and the privatisation of Edinburgh

"Looney Dook" now run as a commercial venture by the same English company that runs "Edinburgh Hogmanay"

https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/s...blast-21216041

The Edinburgh story was highlighted in December when local residents in Central Edinburgh were forded to pay for access to their own houses.

What has this to do with "moving back to the UK"?

Quality of life. Or is that of no concern if you think of moving back ?

Here is Lesley Riddoch in "The Observer", railing against "Disneyfication".

Quality of life is right. Disneyfication is a real threat to choosing and moving to a place that's genuine and real. It reminds me of the flocks of tourists going to Romania not to discover the culture and history, but to find Dracula and his castle.

Part of MBTTUK is a sub-forum (The Rovers Return) for "Off-topic chat for members who have moved or are moving back to the UK."

(possibly your question was asked before the thread was moved to it)

Richard - I came across that when I lived in the Bulgarian Dobruja, just over the border from Romania. I often bumped into Western tourists headed to Transylvania. The only thing they knew about their destination was DRACULA ! Shameful and a reflection of the defects of their education.

Corona has brought the blessing of the caecellation of "Hogmanay 2020" Maybe we can get our lives back without the Curse of Tourism blighting the city !
