Default Rail in SCO

25 years in private hands was disatrous. Lattery, Netherlands Railways run Scotland therough Abelio. Public ownership is no guarantee that the sysyem will be run in the public interest, Remeber Dr Beeching ? But it is the way forward. I want to see extension of The Borders Railway to Carlisle, Reopening of lines to Levenmouth and St Andrews, and renovation of the line from Inverness to Thurso/Wick.

I am not usually a fan of nationalised industries but the railways are ,in my opinion,an exception.

Dr Beeching wreaked havoc on the railways when BR was nationalised.
Let us hope that ScotGov can reverse some of the destruction caused by Beeching and by 25 years of chaos in private hands.

The write-up on English towns often says there used to be a station but the line was closed after the Beeching review. It's a great shame. I doubt many of the lines would be re-opened if the railways were re-nationalised.

Another issue is excessive fares on many routes. And too many fare types.
