I believe you can take the test in an automatic in UK, but then are restricted to automatic use only. (if I remember correctly).

I am forcing myself to do the manual thing though , a challenge is what I am up for lol !
I didn't have any problems when I had my little car(manual) ...but seeing as I didn't pass my test in the UK when I was a teen ...I want to do it at 40 instead !!!!!

Yes that's why I thought you were restricted to driving an automatic once you're a resident.

Changing topic completely: I just watched this lovely BBC 2 program about Black Bears near Ely, Minnesota. That is a unique place, close to where lived for many years - check it out - it's a three part program.

Jackie you won't need it for very long 
but if you download Expat Shield it lets you watch all the British TV programmes, I would be lost without it. 
It's a bit annoying with pop ups but it is FREE so can't grumble. I have been using it for about 3 months now and I love it. It's not for Macs though.

I love my Mac but I want to use this expat shield. Do you have to go sniffing around for a UK IP or does it automatically give you one?
