I believe you can take the test in an automatic in UK, but then are restricted to automatic use only. (if I remember correctly).

Yes,that is also an option .

I am forcing myself to do the manual thing though , a challenge is what I am up for lol !

I didn't have any problems when I had my little car(manual) ...but seeing as I didn't pass my test in the UK when I was a teen ...I want to do it at 40 instead !!!!!

Yes that's why I thought you were restricted to driving an automatic once you're a resident.

Changing topic completely: I just watched this lovely BBC 2 program about Black Bears near Ely, Minnesota. That is a unique place, close to where lived for many years - check it out - it's a three part program.

These particular shows were made for UK broadcast only. The North American Bear Center and the Wildlife Research Institute in Ely, Minnesota will be making future programs for U.S. viewing.

To see the LIVE webcams of Hope and Lily in their den go to -

Lily is 90% confirmed pregnant. We won't know for sure until she gives birth later this month - and the world will see it via the web cam.

I just read this about an American who moved to the UK and he is ready to kiss the ground he walks on.

That's almost my story to a tee!

I actually sent out more resumes than he did - about 200 a month for six months.

Jackie you won't need it for very long but if you download Expat Shield it lets you watch all the British TV programmes, I would be lost without it.

It's a bit annoying with pop ups but it is FREE so can't grumble. I have been using it for about 3 months now and I love it. It's not for Macs though.

http://www.expatshield.com/

It logs you into a British IP address and fools the TV player into thinking you are in the UK.

I now have my Windows laptop running I love my Mac but I want to use this expat shield. Do you have to go sniffing around for a UK IP or does it automatically give you one?

Does anyone know of a similar free program for Macs? So will it work with Fusion, etc., does anyone know?

Really interesting, thank you. Mind you one of the other posters did seem a little familiar.
