This makes me glad to be home:

A horse walks into a police station – video | World news | The Guardian

In Canada the police would either have tasered the horse or peppered it full of bullets.

"'At neigh point did the horse pose a risk to security,' a Cheshire police spokesman later said in a statement"

I suppose there is now a new take on the old jokes that begin "A man walked into a bar'.. Now " A horse walked into the bank and said to the teller ... (fill in the blank)..

Wow! Touché!. But I am appalled. I'm very surprised that the RSPCA gave their approval. But, at least this wasn't the 'overkill' shown by the Canadian cops. Read the two reports, and there is a big difference.

I'm appalled too! I don't understand why they didn't shoot it with a tranquilizer of some kind instead.

Where I used to live in Cambridge, cattle were always wandering about some of the semi-public spaces. The university had herds that grazed on a few of the open greens in the centre city, with cyclists and pedestrians passing by not far away and no barriers in between.

My husbands laboratory was surrounded by grazing lands; every once in a while cars would be held up by a mother and calf going walkabout down the road out of the car park there. Someone would simply call the farmer.

Yes, and this is the reason..

<Actress Angelina Jolie has been made an honorary dame by the Queen for services to UK foreign policy and the campaign to end war zone sexual violence.>

it was for her humanitarian works, and not her work as an actress, and it's only honorary, so she can't go round using the title. Plenty of people have been given honorary awards.

Quite.

Was not2old objecting to the award? I didn't understand his comment.
