Yes, definitely another vote for Arthur's Seat.
I haven't been to Edinburgh much but if you are going by car, be sure to take your sat nav. The roads have been in a state for years due to the never-ending tram line construction so there are diversions everywhere. It's easy to be a few metres from where you want to go and then next thing you have been diverted 5 turns and half a mile away and no idea how to get back there!

We'll definitely do Arthur's Seat and Mike, thank for saying that about the Royal Mile as that's where we're staying. Sounds like a good spot!

Assuming they've not made the price stupid, Mary King's Close is good. It's the remnants of a street & buildings under the Royal Mile.

Depending on whether you will be there for two full days, you could take a trip to Stirling, to the Wallace Monument (also Stirling Castle, which I prefer to Edinburgh Castle, but two castles in two days might be overkill!).
I don't know what the public transport is like from Edinburgh to Stirling, and a weekend may not be long enough to go there also, but in case anyone else is thinking of visiting the area I thought I would mention it.

Edinburgh-Stirling by train is good - but not cheap. Buses also good.
